 Letter from NOMS (06/04/09) |
“Once sites for the new prisons have been identified, the Government intend to follow the normal
planning route and will make an application for planning permission to the appropriate local
authority. Pre-application consultations will be held with planning officers, local councillors and
other interested parties on the detail of the proposed prison development in the usual way. This
will include a public exhibition to explain the proposals and give local people the opportunity to

“I have met with the Secretary of State for Justice, Jack Straw, and made it absolutely clear to him that the Omega site is not suitable for a Titan Prison, and that it would be detrimental to businesses and to the wider community if it were to go ahead. The Minister listened carefully to what I had to say, and has assured me in response to questions raised by my constituents that whatever site is identified by the Ministry within the North West region as a preferred site, all the normal democratic processes will be followed.” |

We have commenced site clearance works for Omega North and are now developing options for the later phases of the deployment, working closely with all our North West partners.

| Letter from Helen Southworth, MP - 05 November 2008 |
Response from Helen Southworth, MP - Click to enlarge. |
“I am completely opposed to any use of the Omega site for a prison. The Omega site is a very important regional economic site which is intended to attract national and international business, especially in the fields of IT and other data technologies, pharmaceuticals and medical technologies, environmental technologies and telecoms.” |
